Vermont State Tree

Vermont State Tree

Vermont shares its state tree, the sugar maple, with New York, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The tree’s spectacular fall foliage and maple syrup (maple was designated Vermont’s official flavor) make it a hard act to follow.

However, conifers are also powerful symbols in Vermont. How could Vermont be the Green Mountain State without conifers? A pine is prominently displayed on the state flag, seal, and coat of arms.

The new Vermont flag proposal pictured above features green and orange stripes representing the nickname Green Mountain State, the sugar maple, and the beautiful fall foliage the state is renowned for.
