More Texas Plant Symbols

If you thought two state flowers, a state tree and grass, and enough official edible plants to feed an army were enough to satisfy Texans, you were wrong.

While Arizona calls the blossom of the saguaro its state flower, Texas is the only state besides Colorado with an official cactus. Texans call the prickly pear their official “plant.”

What else but cotton could be the official fiber and fabric?

For good measure, Texas has two official shrubs, the crape myrtle and Texas purple sage. The latter has nothing to do with Zane Grey’s famous novel Riders of the Purple Sage.
