Nevada State Fish

The cutthroat trout is the most popular state fish in the West. However, only Nevadans adopted a subspecies called the Lahontan cutthroat trout.

During the Ice Age, huge lakes covered much of the Great Basin. As the climate became more arid, they began to shrink. One isolated population evolved into the Lahontan cutthroat trout.
