North Carolina State Fish

North Carolina State FishBrook trout (top) and channel bass, or red drum.

The cardinal, brook trout, eastern tiger swallowtail, and dogwood are among the most popular ecosymbols in the East, but only North Carolina and Virginia are represented by all four. However, North Carolina’s original state fish was the channel bass, or red drum. It later designated the brook trout its official freshwater trout.
