Kentucky Earth Symbols

The freshwater pearl was named Kentucky’s official gemstone. Coal and the Kentucky agate are the official mineral and rock.

The brachiopod is Kentucky’s official state fossil. Though not as exciting as a dinosaur or even a trilobite, it is one of the oldest state fossils.

However, Kentucky’s most important symbol may be its state soil, Crider soil. Without it, there would be no bluegrass and therefore no Kentucky.
