Colorado State Mammal

Colorado’s state animal, the bighorn sheep, may be an even better symbol of the Rockies than the state tree and flower, the beautiful blue spruce and blue-and-white columbine. Mountain sheep can travel to high elevations where trees can’t grow.

The old nickname Buffalo Plains State recalls the vast herds of bison that once roamed the plains.
