California State Tree

California has two state trees, the coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) and giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum).

Redwoods are bigger than any other plants or animals adopted as state symbols, unless you want to consider colonial organisms like Utah’s quaking aspen a single living creature.
