Texas State Bird

The mockingbird ranks with the largemouth bass, alligator, and magnolia as one of the most popular symbols of the South. The first states to adopt it were Florida and Texas, both of which made their choice in 1927.

One might expect a state with an ego as big as Texas to call the ostrich its state bird. No worries, Texas has an official ostrich capital, too.
