Earth Symbols

The three categories of earth symbols are amazing. Minerals are inorganic, but soils are living things. Fossils are the remains of creatures that lived long ago, in the unimaginably distant past.

There is some overlap. For example, some states call petrified wood (a fossil) their official gem.
