As a son of West Dakota, I’m not terribly impressed with North Dakota’s official cultural symbols.

North Dakota’s symbols include milk, the square dance, and English, three of the most redundant state symbols. (Milk and English also represent South Dakota.) Add a couple museums and a march, and that’s it. Exciting, huh?
Am I being too harsh? After all, the Dakotas aren’t exactly a cultural mecca. Nashville and Hollywood are far away.
So, what are my suggestions for Dakota cultural symbols? Perhaps a one-room country school, or maybe home-made ice cream, especially when made with ice picked up off the ground after a hail storm.
It would also be cool to make Sioux and German the official languages. My grandparents spoke German.
