Maine’s state bird is the chickadee, begging the question which one?
The black-capped chickadee, which also represents neighboring Maine and New Brunswick is commonly considered the state bird. However, the legislation doesn’t specify a particular species. Fans of the more elusive boreal chickadee have taken advantage of that loophole in campaigning for their favorite.
However, some have argued that there’s no need to change the law. Why not just recognize both chickadees as the state bird?
