If you aren’t a big fan of the U.S. military, then you might not be too impressed with Connecticut’s official state aircraft and ship.
The Corsair F4U became a famous fighter plane in World War II and the Korean War. It was manufactured in Connecticut.
Connecticut’s state ship is actually a submarine. In fact, it’s probably the most famous submarine in the world—the USS Nautilus.
Like the Corsair, the Nautilus was built in Connecticut. Launched in 1954 (during the Cold War), it was the world’s first nuclear powered submarine. The Nautilus traveled more than half a million miles, including a trip to the North Pole.
