There’s a widespread rumor, apparently perpetuated by Wikipedia, that the avocado, artichoke, and rice are California’s official state fruit, vegetable, and grain, respectively. As near as I can determine, however, that isn’t true. The governor apparently issued a proclamation declaring them symbols in 2013, but it wasn’t sign in to law.
Believe it or not, California does have four official nuts, adopted in 2017. Hold the Ronald Reagan jokes; the honorary nuts are the almond, pecan, pistachio, and walnut.
