Alaska State Bird

Alaska’s willow ptarmigan is the only state bird that turns white in winter. It probably lives farther north than any other state bird as well.

The ptarmigan also serves as the official game bird of Newfoundland, Canada.

In recent years, some people have campaigned for the adoption of the raven as Alaska’s state bird. The raven currently represents Canada’s Yukon Territory.
