The most popular state symbols in the South are the magnolia, mockingbird, largemouth bass, alligator, and tiger swallowtail (butterfly). Mississippi is represented by all of them except the tiger swallowtail; Mississippians adopted the spicebush swallowtail instead.
Mississippi also calls the wood duck its official waterfowl.
