Few flowers pack a more powerful punch than Kansas’ sunflower, source of the nickname Sunflower State. A sunflower is displayed on Kansas’ state flag, though the flag is a bit of an embarrassment. However, the sunflower is a common icon on new state flag proposals, like the one pictured above.
